I keep a collection of pitch decks that raised money.

It's at about 100 now. Some I saw back at Eleven Ventures. Some came from founders I've worked with directly. The rest I gathered online over the years.

Pre-seed to Series B, spread across the last 10 years or so.

I was going through these pitch decks last week (as I’m currently helping a client with theirs) and noticed how little effort it took to read some of them. Slide after slide, I wasn’t getting stuck, nor going back over a sentence - it just felt smooth, they were easy to grasp.

So I got curious and started trying to figure out what was going on.

I ran a little experiment

I normally run my newsletters and LinkedIn posts through a readability checker - to determine how easy it is for someone to read what I’ve produced.

So for the sake of the experiment I ran a few of the pitch decks through a readability checker. And I was shocked by the result.
